Regular checks reduce failure risk
A trailer or car transporter can stand unused for weeks and then immediately work under load. Before the season, a long route or intensive use, carry out a basic inspection.
Tyres, wheels and pressure
Check tyre age, cracks, damage, tread and correct pressure. Low pressure worsens handling and increases tyre temperature.
Lights, plug and electrical system
Test position lights, indicators, brake lights, reversing light, fog light and number plate lighting. Damaged plugs and corroded contacts are common problems.
Coupling, safety cable and support wheel
The coupling must lock securely on the tow ball. Check the safety cable, support wheel, clamp and stability during hitching.
Brakes, frame and securing points
For braked trailers and transporters, check the brake system, overrun mechanism, frame, floor, sides, ramps, securing points and winch.
