Light and braked trailers are built for different tasks
A light trailer and a braked trailer can look similar, but they differ in capacity, safety reserve, comfort and intended use. The choice should depend on cargo, route, frequency of use, GVW and towing vehicle limits.
When is a light trailer enough?
Light trailers up to 750 kg GVW are useful for garden work, home materials, tools, furniture and smaller business loads. They are simple, light, economical and easy to manoeuvre.
When is a braked trailer better?
A braked trailer has its own braking system and gives more control with heavier loads, longer routes and frequent work. It is usually the better choice for construction materials, machines, wood, paving stones and professional use.
GVW, own weight and payload
GVW is the maximum allowed weight of the trailer with cargo. Payload is the usable load capacity after subtracting own weight. Always compare all values, not just the price.
Do not buy only by price
A cheaper trailer is a good option only when it really fits the job. If you regularly move heavier loads, a braked model with a better reserve of capacity can be more practical for years.
